Introduction.

Late 2007 i bought my own domain. Before that my site only had a simple counter, which only told me something about, how many visits my site had during the time. Now I am able to se much more, and to day I know, that many visitors are from from US. Let me tell at once, I am not an expert in English and English grammar, but I am writing in the way, that I find most naturely. I have spent a week or so thinking how to present my knowledge. American visitors has as well as I the same interests. I have an idea about, that you want to find your roots here in Denmark, and I want to find out what happened to members of my family tree, who emigrated to US. Still I have not decided in which way I finally will serve my information's, so please have a little patience. A little feedback could give me some hints about what to change/add.

Genealogy.

Genealogy research over the Atlantic Ocean is difficult, and I a have a little true and nice story about how difficult it can be. When my grandmother died, my father found some old letters. Few of them was signed George M. Anderson. I asked my parents: "Who is this man?" "We do not know", was the answer. In August 2005 a descendant of a sister to my great grandmother in DIS-danmark asked for information's about Bertha Kirstine Haugaard and George Mark Anderson. Quickly I found out, that he wrote about my Birthe Kirstine H. First feeling was a nice feeling, because I did not know anything about her emigration. I also had a feeling about something more, but I could not se it, and I could not put words upon it. An hour later I went for a short sleep - called grandfather - but just before felling asleep, I suddenly had a cold feeling from my neck and down my back. Well, now I could not sleep. George M. Anderson and George Mark Anderson is the same person. He was difficult to find, but with help from more persons we found him. The short version is this. In 1856 we got a new name law. Before 1856 sirnames changed from generation to generation f.x. Niels Andersen, Anders Nielsen, Niels Andersen etc. Father to George is Niels C. Andersen, and born after 1856 the sirname for George should have been Andersen, but he got the sirname Nielsen following the old name tradition. In the: Danish Emigration Archive all the family suddenly have got the sirname Andersen. It was a hard job to come to this point, and now it was rather traditional work to find all 12 children in the churchbook, because we now knew the parish. George was baptised Mads Jørgen Nielsen!! In US Mads was changed to Mark. Jørgen to George (which is the same name). The Danish sirname he changed to the Swedish name Anderson. Why do things easy for us looking for ancestors, but we found George for end!

Research here and now.

It is not easy to start research about a person, who is born about 100 years ago, and without knowing anything eccept the name. Among my ancestors I have a person with the sirname Sluus. To day I have 24 with this sirname. At least two of them (twin brothers) emigrated to US with wife and children, and they are very close family to the wife of George. I wanted to find out of something more, so I found a US telefone book in the Internet, took a chance writing some letters to Sluus names. It is about two years ago now, and just now I have found the family. There are still a lot of things, which I want to find out about the emigrants. I hope for your help.

How to present the information's?

How can I present my research in the best way. Well, it can be changed, but for a beginning I have decided to make a table for each family. I have the hope, that you in this way can find the person you know, and after that can see the related family.

Presented on Ancestry

I have had a 14 days free period on Ancestry. Here my family tree ought to be found as The Haugaard Jensen Family Tree. It is concentrated about my direct ancestors. 14 days is not much for both building the family tree and for searching new information's, but I have expanded the tree with those family members, which I could remember as emigrated.

The Freund family.

I have some visitors from Germany. Maybe you are looking for a Freund/Freundt family. Well, I know about 3-4 families with this surname. There are some Freund families around Veile, and they maybe have a link to my family, but I have not been able to find it. During the time I have found two men named Freund, who got married in Denmark. As I remember a Carsten Freund and latest a Johann Fr. August Emil Freund. He got married in Løjt Church on second of May 1913, and he got the son Emil Freund on 25th of March 1913. Hope it can be a little help.

02332 Anna Maria Clausen 25.01.1834 Egen Parish - Dyndved, Als Nørre Dist., Sønderborg County 21.07.1875 Tiffin, Seneca District, Ohio Yes

Anna Maria Clausen is known in US as Maria Tyson. On 07.04.1868 (4th of July) she got married to Hans Petersen Thaysen in Hoptrup Church here in Denmark. Together they had a smallholder farm in Hjarup Parish in Denmark also here in Denmark. For Hans it was the second marriage. When Hans died, I could see in the church book, that his second wife died in US in 1875. With some help I found some information's. For end I got a copy of a notice in Seneca Advertiser, Tiffin, Ohio, USA, 22nd of July 1875. Here is the text (it is difficult to read, so there can be mistakes.):

NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. Notice. Nicholas Tyson, John Tyson, of the State of California and Osten I Inleen, whose place of residence, will take nitice thet Harrison Noble, Administrator of the estate of Maria Tyson, deceased, on the 21st day of July A. D., 1875 filed his petition in the Probate Court, within and for the County of Seneca and State of Ohio, alleging that the personal estate of said decedent is insuflicicat pay the debts and the charges of adminis?ng her estate, that she died, scizod in fee simple of the following described real estate, ?????? in the Third Ward of the City of Tiffin, Seneca, Ohio, to-wit in lot numbered six hundred and fourteen (614), in said Third Ward, of said City of Tiffin. The prayer of said perition is for sale of said premises, for the payment of the debts and charges aforesaid. Said petition will be for hearing on the 20st day of August, A. D. 1875 at 10 o'clock A. M. or as soon thereafter, as leave can be obtained. Harrison Noble, Adm'tor of Maria Tyson, deceesed. no-13 t d. S8,10.

Well, I got, what I wanted, but now I am asking: "How can she be a owner of some kind of house or flat, when she also was married in Denmark, and together with her husband had a smallholder farm? Who are Nicholas and John Tyson?" Anna Maria and Hans was married in a little more than 7 years, and for Anna Maria it was her first marriage, so they are not her children I suppose, but I have not looked for children in the church book. Hans got married a third time, but without a death certificate on Anna Maria, it gave him problems. He and her coming spouse had to go to the district court and on solemn declaration say, that they both were free of a marriage, and then they got permission to get married.

Hans and his first spouse are father and mother in law to a sister to my great grandmother. I hope someone in US has the answer, and she/he will send me a mail. Of course I will send the information's I have!

Andreas Peter is a younger brother to Inger Kiestine Holm ID-00623, who is to find earlier on this page. I suppose, that Andreas Peter emigrated from Denmark to USA in 1878, and that he is to find on Family Search in census 1880 as brick maker in Spanish Fork, Utah, where his name is Andrew Holm. If this is correct, then he was married to Martha and had three daughters. Then he has to be married in Denmark, and the two oldest daughters must be born in Denmark - I suppose.
